*Banquet of the Poor*

*Banquet of the Poor*

Some rich folks seem unhappy, so they sit around and whine,

Or they complain and whimper when the sun has ceased to shine.

They never seem contented with what fortune has in store;

For if they have a million, they want a million more.

It takes a proud self-centered man who must be very vain

To think that he's entitled to a life without a pain.

His estimate of his own worth has been inflated so,

He'll fail to find true happiness wherever he may go.

For he could live within the lap of luxuries of earth,

But nothing would be good enough for one of his great worth.

The proud man and the covetous are never found at rest;

The humble only have real peace and take life at its best.

The humble feel unworthy of the smallest gifts of grace,

Find microscopic mercies yield a banquet any place.

So grateful for each grain that grows from out our common sod,

They find in every crust of bread a sacrament with God." -
